Mission Impossible: A doll with a brain!

"The problem is they can forgive your talent, they can forgive your intelligence but they don't forgive beauty. I'm sorry it's true. If you are pretty you have to be stupid", said one of the most beautiful women in the world - Monica Bellucci. In these three sentences we can see some problems of our society, which are very simple and very painful. Everybody wants to be beautiful but at the same time this excludes being smart. I think that today the people who suffer the most are the ones who are beautiful and with more brain cells at the same time. The society and the media made this image of the pretty but studpid woman. We can see it everywhere. For example the beautiful blondie who can't even say one sentence correctly or the models who are only good in posing and better keep their mouths shut.

First comes the problem that everyone wants the beauty but not everyone can handle the burden of it. Usually the women who doesn't have very good physical qualities don't like that much the onces who has it. They are trying to replace the lack of beauty with other things and they use the advantage that the people think that the beautiful women are stupid. Trying to put down the beautiful ones they are trying to handle their own issues. The other problems are the men and the problems during the working process. If a beautiful woman goes to an interview for a job, her appearance usually is not only helping but also causing problems. Even if now the women have more rights than before, still we are living in patriarchal world and men are several steps before us. The statistics are pointing that if there is a man and a woman fighting for the same position with the same qalifications, in most of the cases the man will be chosen for the job. That means that still men and women are not equal. This fight is even harder for the women who are pretty. The reason is that the human weaknesses are sometimes stronger than us and the instinct is one of them. So, therefore if a man is the boss who has to hire the employee for the position, he will automaticly check her physical background. Then comes the instinct and the sexual desire. Unforutunately, most of the human beings still don't know how to fight this and exclude it from their work life. That's why when a pretty woman is looking for a job she is facing that problem. Usually the people think that it can help her but most of the time it is totally the opposite. In the majority of these situations a beautiful woman won't be hired for the position because she can distract the people from their every day job. So, even if she has the qualities, they prefer to hire someone not that attractive.

Even if people exclude the possibility of combination between beauty and brain there are some really good examples from the celebrities we know. The point is that the society is pushing the women to use their beauty and that only with beauty you can achieve everything that you want. May be that's why there are facts about our favourite actresses  and singers that we actually don't know. For example may be you haven't heard that Natalie Portman is fluent in six languages (English, Hebrew, French, Arabic, Japanese and German) and that she graduated from Harvard University with a B.A. degree in psychology but for sure you are aware of her beauty. Also I don't think that it is a famous fact that Shakira has an IQ of 140, and is fluent in five languages but for sure her face is one of the most famous ones. You are may be also a big fan of "The Underworld" saga but you don't know that Kate Beckinsale studied French and Russian literature at Oxford University, she won twice a worldwide literature competition and she is fluent in four languages. The list can continue but I hope you got my point.

The other problem that our society has with beauty is the exaggerating of it. The media is trying to plant in the mind of the young girls that if you have beauty, you can have everything and you actually don't need anything else. The situation with the Photoshop and the plastic surgery is something that everybody has heard of. One very good example is one of my favourite quotes from an amazing move: ''The Great Gatsby''. In one of the most powerful sciences where Daisy shares her struggles to her cousin, she speaks also about her infant daughter. She says: ''I hope she'll be a fool. That's the best thing a girl can be in this world - a beautiful little fool''. Daisy is definitely not stupid but she follows the pattern that the society implements in most of the women during the beginning of this ''new age'' in the late 1920s.

She becomes the product of this stereotype because this gives her a good life, even if she lives in emptiness and boredom in the huge estate of her husband. The character falls in the trap of the social enviroment she lives in and becomes a victim of a social environment that does not tolerate and value intelligence in women. The media made the female population a product and ''an army of living dolls'' that actually doesn't need to have a brain and at the same time we are talking about equal position of men and women in the society. How come?

As an individual everybody is able to have everything and of course we have to make our best to be better people, not only the appearance but also we have to improve our inside world everyday because  everything inside is reflecting from the outside as well. So, we don't have to go to the edge. Beauty and brain are two things that can live together and if we don't have the first one, we don't have to lie under the scalpel in order to change everything. Because if we don't have the second one, we will make a surgery of our brain? The nature knows what its doing and we have to only improve what she gave us but never change it entirely and never envy to the ones who has more because we will also always have something that they don't.

For all the beautiful minds out there,
XoXo
